25 Long Years

  • Jonathan Pollard is the only person in the history of the United States to receive a life sentence for spying for an American ally.
  • On November 21, 2009, Pollard will enter the 25th year of his life sentence, with no end in sight.
  • The maximum sentence today for such an offence is 10 years.
  • The median sentence for this offence is 2 to 4 years.

Meanwhile, in 1995, American Navy Lieutenant Commander Michael Schwartz, a non-Jew, provided Saudi Arabia with daily intelligence summaries. Schwartz was indicted and confessed, and yet never spent a day in prison. Navy officials justified this with the exact statements that Pollard made.

A pro-Arab, non-Jewish military officer escapes punishment, while a pro-Israel, Jewish civilian gets life without parole for the same crime. How is this not anti-Semitism?
